Our Mission

MEDC is recognized statewide as a catalyst for economic growth in Southwest Nebraska. Locally, MEDC is known and respected as a leader in the arena of economic development and being proactive in addressing opportunities to stimulate the economy. The organization is committed to improving the community and region to position the area for positive growth. A full-time housing director was hired in 2003. MEDC is a thriving public-private partnership with a growing, broad-based membership committed to supporting the organization and being active participants in the process. MEDC works closely with the Nebraska Department of Economic Development and the Nebraska Public Power District. Yearly planning sessions are held to determine short-term and long term goals and strategies.

A non-profit organization (501 C 4), MEDC is both privately and publicly funded. Currently, the MEDC governing board has 19 members representing the city, county, college, public schools, hospital, local banks, private companies and individuals. Full-time staff includes a executive director, housing director, and administrative assistant.

A business park, owned by the MEDC and zoned heavy industrial, is available for further development. The Park currently has approximately 20 acres available for sale and lies in the southeast part of McCook adjacent to the main line of the BNSF Railway. The first lot sale was made in July 2002 to Silverstone Inc., a company that provides a tire-mounting service to Valmont Irrigation, Inc., a manufacturing company that makes center pivots for irrigation. Valmont’s land abuts the MEDC’s Business Park. Two lots were sold in December 2013, to Booe Machinery & Salvage, a metal recycling facility.
