Early Childhood Education Scholarship

McCook Economic Development Corporation in conjunction with McCook Community College and McCook College Foundation is pleased to be able to offer two, full tuition and fees scholarships for students interested in studying and working in early childhood education in the McCook region.

Details:

  • Scholarships will cover up to 15 credits for in-state tuition and regular fees. Courses that include additional course fees and books are not covered by this scholarship.
  • Students are able to qualify for the scholarship for up to 4 semesters. To remain eligible, students need to maintain their full-time status and have at least a 2.0 GPA and completing ¾ of credits attempted.
  • These scholarships are intended for students planning on working in early childhood education in southwest Nebraska (which would cover the 44th legislative district).

Eligibility

  • Be a graduate or graduating senior of any high school or have achieved a GED
  • Plan to enroll or be a current student at McCook Community College studying early childhood education
  • Have a GPA of 2.0 or better if currently enrolled in school
  • Must maintain a GPA of 2.0 during the scholarship period
  • Must be willing to sign an agreement stating that, upon completion of the educational process, the student will return to southwest Nebraska and gain employment in early childhood education – students who do not return to southwest Nebraska to work in early childhood education will be respEonsible for repayment of the scholarship grant in full
  • Individual must be able to pass a federal and state criminal history background check and not be listed on the Nebraska Adult Protective Services and Child Abuse Neglect central registry as a perpetrator.

Selection Criteria

  • Applications are due March 6 at 5:00 p.m. to Andy Long at andy@mccookne.org or 402 Norris Ave., Suite 301, McCook, NE 69001.
  • Applications should include
  • A resume including 3 references
  • An unofficial high school transcript
  • A cover letter explaining why you want to work in early childhood education in southwest Nebraska and how your background has prepared you to be successful in that career choice (2 pages max)

Process

  • March 6 by 5:00 p.m.: Resume and Cover letter must be submitted to andy@mccookne.org or 402 Norris Ave., Suite 301, McCook, NE 69001.
  • March 9-13: Selection Committee meets to select individuals to be interviewed
  • March 16-April 3: Selection Committee interviews finalists
  • April 6-10: Selection Committee informs candidates of decision
  • April 24: Candidates selected have deadline of accepting or rejecting scholarship
