McCOOK, Neb. — Area housing officials are raffling off a pergola constructed earlier this year by Prairie Gold Homes inaugural class. The archway was beautifully crafted by students and estimated to have a value of $2,500.

Raffle tickets are $5 each, or 6 for $25, and available at the MEDC office in the Keystone Business Center on Norris Avenue, as well as from a number of volunteers. MEDC Housing will also be selling tickets in Norris Park during Heritage Days, Sept. 26-27.

The drawing for the pergola will be on Sunday, Sept. 27, at 2 p.m. in the Norris Park Band Shell during the Heritage Days celebration. Participants do not need to be present to win.

The PGH inmate-training program provided the necessary labor and incorporated the project into the first class curriculum. Materials were provided by McCook Economic Development Corp. Housing which intends to raffle the archway to assist with grant applications.

“I always need to have matching funds for my grants and in the past I have had the Holiday Home Tours, but decided to do the pergola sweepstakes this year for my grant funds match,” said MEDC Housing Development Director Mary Kircher.

Kircher said the funds raised will be used to support the Homebuyer Education Program and assist with appliance purchases for the Purchase Rehab Resell program, “and help where ever possible in supporting affordable housing in Red Willow County.”

Kircher said MEDC officials had been working with Prairie Gold Homes for several years to bring the non-profit to McCook.

Major sponsors for the raffle include McCook National Bank, AmFirst Bank, Community Hospital and the Maschhoffs. Other sponsors include D&S Hardware, Keystone Floral and Peterson Jewelers.

You can also purchase tickets at McCook National Bank, VK Electronics, AmFirst Bank, First Central Bank, YMCA and D & S Hardware!
